Gliders Spring 2026

C-PROOF has been busy deploying gliders, with a recent turn around of dfo-bumblebee998 by the Hakai crew at Calvert Island. dfo-hal1002 is doing the Southern Line which has now passed two years of almost continuous occupation. We have also started running gliders off the west coast of Vancouver Island as part of a coordinated effort with the PRODIGY field school, led by UBC. dfo-mike579 is a turbulence glider that is sitting in a basin just offshore of Barkley Sound, while dfo-eva025 is doing a box transect around dfo-mike579. This is work being led by PRODIGY post-doc Shannon McLish. Thanks to Bamfield Marine Science Centre for their support deploying these gliders! We will be also taking the CCGS Vector to sample both Barkley Sound and the Vancouver Island shelf next week. When dfo-mike579 runs low on batteries, he will be replaced by dfo-kitt1049 a turbulence glider we haven’t worked with very much yet, so fingers crossed that goes well.
